Eyelets and TagsTara MarkleyEditorial Deck Crewmember Eyelet and tags are popular embellishments in scrapbooking. We can make these embellishments digitally, too. Both are very similar and quite easy. To start, open a new file or a new layer in the file you are working on. First we'll make a tag that looks like a metal-edged tag. Right click on the shape tool and select the rectangle.
Now draw a rectangle. Placement is not really important, as you can move it when it is finished. Now, while you have the shape tool chosen, go into the Layer Styles menu, select Bevel and choose the Inner Ridge bevel. You can change the color of the rectangle using the paint bucket tool. I made mine grey so it will resemble a silver metal-edged tag.
The next step is to fill in the center of the rectangle. The easiest way to do this is to draw a plain white rectangle in the center of the grey one, making sure it fits within the bevel. To do this, you want to add a new layer, select the rectangle tool again, and draw another rectangle. To make it the correct size, zoom in on the shape so it fills the screen and use the Move Tool to adjust the size. You will also need to turn off the bevel edge. While the shape tool is selected, go up to Style and choose Remove Style.
Now you need to merge the two layers so they can be moved together. To do this, go to the Layers tool bar, select one of the layers, and then click in the box to the left of the other layer. You will see a small chain link in the box. Now go to the Layers menu and select Merge Linked.
There is your tag! To make an eyelet, you do the exact same thing with the circle shape tool instead of the rectangle. This layout uses both a metal-edged tag and eyelets.
I hope you have fun adding bunches of tags and eyelets to your layouts. Give it a try and let me know if you have any questions! Tara Markley taramarkley@ssreflections.com Digital Scrapping Editorial Deck Crewmember S.S. Reflections, Inc.
