HP Creative Scrapbook Assistant II: Creating a page from scratchTara MarkleyEditorial Deck Crewmember This is the second article in a series covering the basics of using HP's Creative Scrapbook Assistant software. This month I will show you how to create your own pages without using one of the built-in templates.
First, open the program and create a new page and save it to a new or existing project. I made this page an 8.5x11" landscape page. Next, we're going to create a background. Instead of choosing a preprogrammed image, we'll choose a photo. Click on the Backgrounds tab and select Get Other Content. Chose a folder to upload. Once this is done, select a photo to use as a background image.
By setting the transparency of the background to less than 100, we get a slightly muted image. This makes it look like there is a layer of vellum covering the image. To add some more interest to the page, lets add a few small pictures. First, we'll choose a shape for our photos. To get the shapes, go to the Theme menu and chose a theme. Celebrations will work fine here. I chose a torn rectangle.
The next step is to size and place the shape. Decrease the size and then copy and paste, creating a number of rectangles. Place the shapes where you would like them to be.
In order to access the uploaded photos after changing themes, you have to save each image either to a theme or a project. I saved my background image to a new theme.
Now we have to upload a few photos to use on the page. This is done the same way as the background was. Chose the Images tab and then Get Other Content. Now, select the photos that you would like to use, and drag each one on top of one of the shapes until the shape is outlined. This will place the image properly.
Next, we'll add a title by clicking on the Add Text button and moving the text where you want it. Right clicking on the text will offer you options to rotate and change the font attributes. The text appears with a background frame. In order to have the text by itself on the background, just make the frame transparent. To finish off the page, I added a bit of journaling.
There you have another completed page (don't forget to save it!). The flexibility of this program allows you to create tons of original and personalized layouts. The sky's the limit!
