Digital ColorblockingTara DrummondEditorial Deck Crewmember Everyone has those events or occasions where you just have too many photos to scrap. Sometimes doing five or six layouts is fine, but other times you just want to do one or two. Instead of only scrapping three or four photos, try colorblocking! It’s a great way to scrap all of those photos without having to do a bunch of different layouts.
If you have ever done a paper layout using colorblocking, you know about all of the templates that are available. In digital scrapbooking, there are a couple different approaches to colorblocking. The first, and also the easiest, is to simply crop your photos to the desired sizes, and place them on the background. In order to make the layout look more polished, it’s good to keep the lines clean and not try to do too many different sections.
One way to design a simple colorblocked layout is to crop all of your photos to the same size and form a grid. You could fit more than ten photos on a page that way, depending on the size of your photos.
Another approach to digital colorblocking is to make the gaps before sizing your photos. If you have a layout in mind, just use your line tool in a fairly large size and draw the gaps where you want them.
Next, you want to crop or reduce your photos to the approximate size that you need, then copy and paste them onto the template that you made. If you layer the photo under the lines, you can move it around until it fits just where you want it. You can then go in and erase the parts of the photo that stick out from behind the lines.
Either way you choose to go about it, digital colorblocking is MUCH easier than its paper counterpart, but it will still allow you to fit tons of photos on one layout.
