Boxes and ShoesSuzanne Saupe - Stamping Deck CrewmemberMerry Christmas and Happy New Year! My goodness, this year has quickly come to an end, and new adventures await us. My wish for you is a very creative Christmas and a year of creating wonderful objects in the New Year. This will be my last article for SSR. I have been with this wonderful, informative and creative e-zine since the beginning. Now it is time for me to move on and take a break for a while. I hope I have inspired some of you to play and create, and broaden your artistic horizons. This e-zine is full of wonderful, creative, artistic articles and samples. I hope you have enjoyed mine, and all the other wonderful artists here, and know that you will be very happy and inspired by the new people who have come aboard! Since it is the Christmas season, I’ve decided to make Christmas boxes. These are easy to do, fun to make, and surely a lot of fun to receive with a little gift tucked inside. You can whip up a couple of these in a short time, and those who receive them will think you spent hours and hours creating your little beauties! I made three of them for this article and do hope you enjoy them. My last project is a pair of ballet shoes. A cyber friend had an old pair of these shoes and asked me if I would give a go at altering them. I’ve never done shoes before so thought, “Why not?” I must admit I had no idea how they would look when finished, but I am pleased with the results. My friend is also pleased, thank heavens! Let’s look at the boxes first. This first box is painted a very deep red and simply embellished with stickers and a Christmas candle appliqué I found at a thrift store. The colors are very rich, and a coat or two of varnish give it a really nice sheen. This next box is done in greens and blues. The centerpiece of the box top is a crochet snowflake topped off with a found snow globe pin. A row of beads along the top edge and bottom edge of the box add a bit more flair.
This last box has a bit more flair simply because it has more “stuff” on it. Again, painted a nice red but topped with a large Merry Christmas sticker, felt holly and some beads. The edge of the box and the box bottom are done with stickers. I think this box is very striking and sure to be appreciated by the lucky person that receives it!
These ballet slippers were fun to work with once I figured out what I wanted to do with them! They were a bit hard to work with because they are old and sort of “crumpled.” I painted them, applied layers of old papers, music sheets, text, etc. After all the painting was done, I then stamped. The “strings” at the top of the shoes are done with wire and beads, and a funky face made of clay. A music charm was glued to the back of the shoes. It was a fun, challenging project to do, and I will certainly do another pair at some point.
Again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I won’t be seeing you next month, but you can bet I will be reading SSR to see all the great art and hope you will do the same! May you have an Artful New Year!
