Altered Tins Canister Set!

I am so excited about our stop this month! I have always wanted to visit Australia, but never thought I'd actually get to see it! There are so many attractions here that I hope we don't run out of time! I was surprised to learn that Australia is about the size of the continental United States.

Some unique wonders that we will visit during our stop in Australia include the Uluru and Kata Tjuta landforms. These natural structures jut up out of a flat sand plain. We'll also visit the Great Barrier Reef. What a breathtaking site of pristine white beaches, crystal blue water and wonderful coral!

One of the man-made wonders we will visit is the Sydney Opera House. It is an extraordinary structure on the harbor at Bennelong Point and houses one of the world's premier performing-arts centers.

One more spot I hope we'll get to visit is Kangaroo Island. This spot melds civilization and the wilderness. It is home to sea lions, penguins, dolphins, koalas and kangaroos in a natural environment.

I did take a little time to craft during this trip. I think the altered artist is also a recycler, taking items that most people would throw away and changing them into something useful. I took some tins that I had saved (you know you have some too, the ones you get candy, cookies or snacks in that you just don't know what to do with when they're empty). I used three of varying heights to make a darling canister set.

My tins were from different sources, so the colors of the lids didn't match. This is easily fixed with a coat of Gesso and paint.

Measure the height of each tin and cut a strip (or strips) of paper to cover. Cut a second print paper half the width of the first paper. Adhere the second strip over the middle of the first. Add some ribbon trim along the bottom edge of the second piece of paper using a decorative stitch to accent it.

Add stickers and other embellishments before adhering the paper to the tin. I used brads to accent tags and photo turns.

Add ribbon to the rim of the lids. Adhere a circle of print paper to each lid and add a large floral accent to each lid. Your canisters are finished and ready to fill!

I hope you enjoyed making your set of canisters, and I am glad you joined us for our visit to Australia. I thoroughly enjoyed this stay and hope to return to this beautiful country again some day.
