Hello out there! Anybody there?? I did not get any letters this month...sigh... What do I write on this cruise to Japan then? I think the best thing for me to do is write about some of the most interesting questions that have been asked on our group's Yahoo group. If you do not belong, you absolutely should join. I became a part of this ezine because I was so interested in the inspirational Yahoo group. You can chat with some of the most talented design team members of any team anywhere! To visit, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SSReflectionsezine/

Our list is very active---great pieces of art are often posted by inspired, talented readers and designers, and so many of my questions were answered right on the list. If I had a question, someone on the list could always answer it. Also important to many people, everyone is so courteous! "No fuss, no muss!" One of the finest scenic rubber stamp artists in the country, Joe Nathan, moderates the list and does an outstanding job! Gosh, in June, the famous Tim Holtz was corresponding on the group and advising us on how to use some of his superb products!

One question I thought you might be interested in hearing was a question from Cindy in New York: "Okay so how does one get published? For someone who has never tried, what do you do?" Each magazine has an editorial schedule that they follow. They post on their website and often in their magazine what type of layout or art they are seeking. Using their specifications on content and style, let the creative side of your brain take over and create a work of art! Remember, each magazine has its own style. It would be wise to know the magazine. Look through the recent issues and check out the current favorites of style.

Sometimes, it is a pure issue of "being in the right place at the right time" with the right impressive layout. This question came about because one of our very own, Becky Chabot, was deservedly published in the current (July/August) issue of The Rubber Stamper. We are so happy for her because, when your work is published, it is an affirmation of your art by people who live to do just that!

And---just one tip from the group before we dock in Japan----to add a really cool look to your layout, especially a swirl or girly one, Designer Janet Khashab says to heat your organdy or nylon ribbon lightly with your heating tool so that the edges of the ribbon just crinkle! I am going to try this one tomorrow on my next card.
