Reader's GallerySue Schneider - Reader's Gallery Coordinator, Scrapping Design Team 05/01/2004SOUTH AFRICA Get away and discover inspiration and muse in our Gallery as well as the ezine. We will share our designs with you and hope that you will share yours with us. Whether you are a first-time cruiser or a veteran sailor, the Gallery is your ultimate guide to sharing and inspiration. Just like a lighthouse guides ships through the fog, it is our hope that the ideas shared here will entice your senses and trigger the creative power within you. Each month, we will pick a theme. For May, our port is South Africa. We provide a theme to challenge you and our designers and provide you with more adventures for creativity. Please send all gallery submissions to editor@ssreflections.com -- we prefer to stick to the theme of the month, but will consider any artwork! The gallery is changed twice a month. Next month we are going to Brazil. Think Rio De Janiero, carnival, nuts, bright clothing, bananas, salsa, papers, mountains, parrots, waterfalls, samba, masks, and food. Some Facts about South Africa - to get you in the mood from www.southafrica.net South Africa's vast landscape includes savannahs, snow-covered mountains, forests, tropical swamps, endless beaches, tranquil rivers and… bustling urban epicentres. The North Cape province is rich in San rock art paintings that date back to time immemorial. The San were hunter-gatherers who lived off the desert, and their rich heritage has been preserved in numerous paintings found in caves all over the Northern Cape region. Notwithstanding the appearance of celebrity "folk artists", ordinary craft, in which the makers are usually anonymous, continues to thrive in South Africa. The main areas of traditional craft work are beadwork, pottery, basketry and carving.
