Scrapbooks about you!

Ramie Ahlstrom - Scrapping Deck Cruise Director

How many times has your family flipped through your scrapbooks and asked "Mom, why aren't there any layouts of you in here?" or "Mom, what did you do last year?" Do your friends ever ask "Why don't you have some pages about the things you like in here?" when they look through your albums?

Have you read about people doing entire albums all about themselves, and been itching to do one of your own? It can be a daunting task, but you may find it to be one of the most rewarding! Future generations will appreciate the time and effort that you put into it, as they'll get to know more about you, the things you like, what you did and where you went!

I started a book about me a few years ago...but that's about as far as I've made it! I wanted to write this article to inspire me to get a few more pages done in my album, and to encourage others to do the same!

Here's a list of ideas to get you started:

Your birth day. List where, when and any special events that were happening. You can find a lot of info about the day you were born by checking out online time capsules. DMarie has a great one!

Your family. List your parents, grandparents, siblings, pets, etc. Or do one page about each. Then be sure to include your husband, kids, stepkids, and the inlaws too!

Places you've lived. Be sure to list addresses if you can remember them! Your parents might have photos that you could use of the homes you lived in as a child.

Friends. Dedicate a page or two, or several if you want, to the special friends in your life.

Your education. Schools you've attended, teachers who've mattered most, and classmates, as well as accomplishments.

Your jobs. Past, present and future (if you hope to change). You could include pics of you at your job, coworkers, or just do a fun page similar to a resume.

Your hobbies. Maybe you've always been a scrapper? Or maybe it just started last year---after giving up on something else? Be sure to show some completed projects too!

Favorites. This section could be huge….favorite foods, restaurants, stores to shop in, colors, holidays, and events are just a few to get you started!

Things that make you smile. Maybe it's your son's silly faces, or the little things your husband does without asking. Anything that lights up your face is fair game!

What you believe. Things you feel strongly about, and believe in.

Hopes. Future wishes for you, your kids, your friends, etc.

Your daily life. Your schedule, activities and all those little things (like how you like your coffee, whether you use one towel or two, etc) that most people don't know about your day to day life.

Historical events during your life. What happened? When? Where? To who? Your feelings on the events and the headlines from that day are all easy layout ideas!

Things you despise. Whether its mushrooms and liver, or cleaning the toilets and tubs, be sure to document a few of the things you don't like in life. I know that each of us has something that we'd prefer not to have to deal with.

Of course, this list is endless...anything you can think of that represents YOU is fair game!

Be sure to post the pages you create about yourself on our Photo Board.

Happy sails...
