Creative Sketches for Scrapbooking By Becky HigginsRamie Ahlstrom - Scrapping Design Team LeaderJust twelve pages into this book, as I read the introductions by Lisa Bearnson, Tracy White and Becky Higgins, I was itching with anticipation! We were driving to Baltimore, Maryland to visit some friends, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to scrapbook for at least 4 days. I’m telling you... those were 4 tough days!! Luckily, there was a Post-It note pad in my truck (I think it had the grocery list on the top page the week before!)!! As I read the book, I flagged pages with Post-It notes, and jotted notes for applying the sketches to my own scrapbook pages! Using this book is SIMPLE, even easier than cake out of a box!! All you need to do is read the book (or skim it if you prefer), pick a sketch to use, and then pick your pictures, paper and embellishments to create your scrapbook page! To make it even easier to use, the book is divided into sections, according to the number of pictures that the sketches were designed for. There are layouts in the book for both 8.5”x11” layouts, and 12”x12” layouts, but all of the sketches are very easily adaptable to any size. The first sketch I’ve chosen is the first sketch in the book, on page 14, and is for four photos. I used an additional photo as a small embellishment on the title block. I typed my title block and journaling, and printed them onto white vellum. Torn edges completed the look!
The second sketch I chose to showcase is on page 36. This sketch features six photos, and a large amount of journaling. I chose six photos of flowers that were given to me when I had surgery early last year. The flowers were gorgeous, and deserved to be showcased, even after they had seen their best days!
Using a sketch with seven photos was a little harder for me to do. Seems I have lots of sets of four to six photos, or nine plus photos, of any given situation! I had to narrow these rainbow photos down to my favorites, and cropped parts out of some of them to use as accents. This sketch is on page 54, and other than cardstock and some journaling, it is all about the photos!
The fourth sketch I’ve used can be found on page 108. It’s a sketch featuring nine photos. I’ve used nine photos of my dog’s “friends”. Some photos are cropped to fit next to the title, and in a small square on the bottom right hand corner. I ended up with an additional photo, so I placed it in the bottom right corner of the left hand page, in place of some of the journaling in the sketch.
The final sketch for this article is one that uses 10 or more photos. I couldn’t find a tenth photo that would fit, so I added an embellishment in place of one photo. This sketch leaves a lot of room for substitution. Any of the smaller photo blocks could easily become home to embellishments.
As you can see, these layouts are very simple, and very clean, but sophisticated at the same time! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading the book, and using the sketches in my scrapbooks! I hope that after seeing these layouts, and reading Sharon Caldwell’s review of this book, you are itching to see it, and itching to scrapbook! Scrappin’ Hugs!
