Bright WhimsyPurnima Girouard - Stamping Deck CrewmemberAt this point in Winter, it's good to bring some sunny smiles to life! Looking out my living room window, the view includes sere grasses, snow, and icy gravel. Shades of gray… February is a great time for livening things up with some all out color! Let's get out the high intensity inks, watercolors, pens and papers. A happy touch of whimsy will help to conquer the Blahs if the pesky little critters have found their way to your work table. Turn loose some crazy cats on them! For more fun, some unexpected papers and zappy embellishments will bring a freshness that anticipates Spring!
Directions: Stamp the Three Cats using Cobalt ink on the white, glossy cardstock scrap. Heat set. Paint the image with Twinkling H2O watercolors, brushing it on using a small swirling motion. Enhance some of the features with colorful gel glaze pens. Trim closely when dry and set aside. Ink the Dogs and Cats verse with both Turquoise and Jade pads and stamp on glossy cardstock. Cut out with a white margin and embellish with yellow gel pen, red brad and a scrap of dotted ribbon. Set aside. Stamp "Meow" with Cobalt ink on another glossy cardstock scrap. Over-write the word with blue gel glaze pen and create borders at top and bottom with yellow marker. Embellish with a green floral brad and a dotted ribbon scrap. Set aside. Apply the pink decorative paper panel vertically in the center of the turquoise card. Stamp "Meow" twice in cobalt ink at the bottom right of the panel and over-write with blue gel glaze pen. Attach the prepared stamped items to the card as shown, using foam tape to mount the Three Cats image. Embellish the card with more ribbon and yellow brads. Here are a couple more bright card samples with Stamp Francisco images to give you the urge for some colorful fun! Using some small sized Ancient Page ink pads direct-to-paper to block in some intense hues makes another Three Cats card fast and easy to create. The colors include Cobalt, Sunburst, Red Coral, Azalea and Primrose. (To view full sized images of the cards, click on the pictures.)
The Birdcage Cat card uses Piñata alcohol inks by USArtquest for a hip background effect. The black stamping and detailing serves to emphasize the vibrant color combinations. Some wonderful fabric trims from Queen of Tarts give a delightful touch of retro-funk.
