Pocketsby Melissa HuberStamping Deck Crewmember Hey all you SSReflections Readers. Thanks for stopping by my "Mess Hall"! This month I made a pocket book, using a brown paper bag. This was so much fun and easy to do. The best way to start is to make sure you have a clean work space! (Like that will ever happen!) Next get all your supplies ready, based on the theme of your choice. For my book I didn't really have a particular theme, other than making it a vintage look. So let's start: (Please note, the first 4 images do not have larger images available)
Step 1:
Taking your chosen number of brown paper bags, (I only used two, but you can use however many you want) lay them down facing opposite directions, as shown in the first picture.
Step 2:
Fold the brown bags exactly in the center and use your bone folder to help make the fold flat.
Step 3: Cover the front cover with a page from any book you may have. Step 4: Using your hinges, mark where your holes will be and punch those holes with a ¼" hole punch. Put the hinges in place and place the brads in to secure.
Now it's time to decorate your pocket book. I covered each page with a small piece of black cardstock, and went from there. For the front cover, I printed out a bingo card and attached it to the black cardstock. Then I distressed the bingo card and added some small stamped images with numbers on them. I also added a small paper flower and some bingo chips. For the tags that hang out the side I just printed out some bingo cards and distressed them a lot and glued on some more bingo chips, and slipped fibers through the holes.
On this next page I used an old sewing theme. I covered each piece of black cardstock with some pattern tissue paper. Next I distressed the pattern paper. I found some old and new sewing images that I distressed some to make them more vintage. For the tags I also covered them with pattern paper and distressed slightly with shoe polish. I added some more odds and ends, sewing buttons and papers.
The next page is a wedding page. Again cover the bag with the black cardstock and add some black photo corners and insert floral vellum. Stamp woman with black ink and matte on black cardstock with photo corners. I added some rub-ons and a few stickers and buttons. For the tag,s cover with some wedding scrapbook paper and distress. Add some lace on the left side and a few wedding embellishments.
On the last page I covered parts of the black cardstock with some old paper and distressed it lightly. The image was stamped with vintage photo ink and lightly covered with walnut ink. I printed out an old photo and glued it down. Attach a few stickers that say "Photos" and a rub-on that says treasure.
As you can see these pocket books are easy to do and you can have as many pockets as you want. By doing so just add more paper bags! Let's see your pocket books in our Photo Gallery!
