Paper Arts with CreativityBy Catherine MaceBook Review by Judy Cantrell Stamping Deck Crewmember Welcome back to my stamping library as I share this month’s review. Catherine, along with other designers, has created wonderful papercrafts for you! This unique book is filled with ideas to make fold-ups, books, boxes, cards and more. It’s easy to make each project with the full-size patterns and step-by-step directions. All you need to get started are mulberry papers, vellum, printed papers, cardstock, glue, scissors and a few simple tools. You will learn how to make an explosion pocket vest card with secret pockets, several little paper purses, best wishes and good fortune cards, ribbon bound accordion books, open window accordion cards, vellum flowers, booklets, flower pop-ups, mobiles, boxes, bookmarks, a surprise message box and a pull-out message in an envelope. There are plenty of projects to do in this little book of 35 pages from Design Originals. ![]() This little purse can be hung around your neck or fit inside a larger purse to hold extra cash, coins and credit cards. Catherine supplies two patterns complete with directions. She calls one of her little purses woven purse with gold closure. With Catherine’s pattern, I made my example from painted and stamped paper strips that were woven together to make a one of a kind little purse.
I love this project; I made several of these this year for Mother’s Day gifts. You can make many varieties with all the punches and stamps that are available today using Catherine’s directions but making them uniquely yours. By the way, a butterfly and flower pattern is supplied with these projects as well as full-size patterns in two sizes. Both of my examples were fun to make using my rubberstamps, punches and a corrugated paper crimper I’ve had many years.
This mini gift box was fun to make using the easy instructions on page 28. Catherine shares three styles that would be perfect to use as an ornament or as a presentation box.
This card was easy to make using the full-size patterns supplied with complete instructions. Catherine Mace and Sandy Mullenix share three styles of 3-D greeting cards as well as a colorful flower basket. They would be perfect as party favors, small gifts or as a table decoration.
My last example is an open window accordion card that was fun to make using circle openings for the top layer with three messages. I enhanced mine further with watercolors, chalks and gold stickers. Each accordion fold card comes complete with step-by-step directions as well as instructions to finish the cover. When finished it looks like a small book until you open it up.
I have enjoyed sharing these examples from Catherine’s book Paper Arts with Creativity published by Design Originals. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me. Come back next month while I share another book or DVD from my library. Until next month!
