Beachy Keen

Cindi Bisson - Scrapping Deck Crewmember

Every summer most of us head to the beach or lake and end up with more beach photos waiting to find their way onto a layout. Dare to be different and take some unique photos this year – close-ups of your family members having fun on the beach or in a beach-side pool – close-ups of beachy items like crabs, seashells, beach flowers, seagulls...it doesn’t matter if the beach view, sand, etc., shows up as background – your journaling can explain where you were! There are a variety of beach themed papers out there: sand, seashells, water. There are great stickers and die cuts available in seashell patterns, sunglasses, buckets & shovels, sand castles. How about using sandpaper to add a beachy feel to your layout? Or even real beach sand in a fun way (over clear drying glue for titles, in a shaker box...), create a wave of photos or waves out of some other unexpected item. There are lots of options out there if you let your creative muse spread her wings!

Wipe Out! When you look at these “close up photos,” you can tell we were swimming, and most likely at a beach of some sort based on the color of the water. It’s a lake beach layout – even though it doesn’t have seashells, etc. as a background – it still shows beach time FUN! The water patterned paper was stained with Eucalyptus walnut ink to better mimic the actual lake water.

SWIM! Our family spent an equal time in the ocean and in the beach-side pool on our trip to Kure Beach last summer. This layout highlights photos of some of the pool fun! The textured cardstock at the top of the page was hand-cut and layered to create the wave effect. The title was paint stamped with various shades of blue and foam alphabet stamps.
I think this string would also make great free-form flowers, lettering, etc.

Summer Adventure! Real beach sand creates a unique textured border on this layout. I spread clear drying glue on the right edge of the paper. Then I added real beach sand, punched crabs, and Elemental stones for a great textured border. Journaling about this summer adventure with Mr. Crab is hidden behind a fold back section on the center strip of paper.

Rule the Waves! No beach themed papers were used on this layout, yet it still has that beachy feeling based on the colors used, the waves of photos, and the wave embellishment over the title which was created with a pipe cleaner, Elemental stones, and doodling.

I challenge you to think out of the box a bit and create some fun, unique beach themed layouts with your next batch of beach photos!

Happy Scrapping!
