Christina Lazar-Schuler
Lazar StudioWERX Inc.

Lazar StudioWERX Inc. began just over 5 years ago, shortly after Christina Lazar-Schuler and her dear husband Terry Schuler were engaged in October 1999. After deciding to have a small intimate, family and close-friends only wedding, Christina thought that handmade invitations to the big event would add warmth and charm to the intimate affair.

One afternoon, shortly after deciding that she would create the invitations herself, Christina wandered into a local rubberstamp store and was instantly hooked. Wouldn't it be grand to create custom, handmade invitations using rubberstamps?!?

Well, it soon became evident that there was a design gap between what Christina wanted to use and what was available in rubberstamp designs.

Terry made the fateful suggestion that she should consider designing her own stamps, after all she was an artist and graphic designer, and really, how hard could it possibly be? Soon after, Christina began designing the fine art inspired stamps she craved using and the company Lazar StudioWERX Inc. was born.

Christina and Terry began their sharp learning curve about the manufacturing process for rubberstamps and quickly found it wasn't going to be as easy as they thought it would be. There would be equipment to purchase, mounts and masterplates to have made, website creation, sales and shipping oh my! However, after many mistakes at the beginning, they honed their newly adopted craft and were quickly making a high-end, top quality product that could compete with the best rubberstamps in the market today.

Designed in-house by Christina and manufactured by hubby Terry, their stamps are made of the finest materials; natural, deeply etched red rubber, industry standard cushioning, beautifully moulded Maple wood mounts and clear stamp index labels. All their stamps are hand pressed, hand assembled and are inspected carefully before being shipped to their buyers. Through quality control in both product and process, they pride themselves on being able to bring finely detailed, high quality stamps to the rubber stamp and paper arts market.

Today, the Lazar StudioWERX Inc. 'elements - fine art inspired rubberstamp' Collection covers a wide variety of imagery while still maintaining their signature antique etched look. Designs include architectural, botanical, collage, fine art and antique inspired selections, many of which have come right from Christina's passion for photography, beginning their lives not just as stamp illustrations, but as digital photographs converted into vintage, etched stamp designs.

What inspires her design work? Christina is a self-confessed 'hoarder' of all things paper and possesses an enormous collection of vintage photography, postcards, ledger books, luggage tags, apothecary labels and antique illustrations, all of which inspire her Antiquity and Ephemera stamp designs.

However, it is her Collage stamps that often cause a stir when on display in retail stores. Unique and complex, these large collage designs (ranging in size from 4x4 to 3.5x5.5) blend many elements from her existing line of stamps plus incorporate new design features to create a unique, infinitely stampable image. These wonderfully complex collages are amazing stamped on 4x4 tile coasters, in altered books and even on fabric.

Recently, they have expanded the elements Collection to include coordinating images that compliment their new paperWERX product line and include many new "scrapbook-friendly" designs. Designs for this less 'arty' group of images are simplified, bold and graphic, drawing heavily on the enormous stamps Christina carves when she designs her painted papers.

Speaking of painted papers… Christina and her hubby launched a new division of their company in Fall 2004 called paperWERX, which features 12" x 12", visually textured, vibrantly printed handpainted papers and die-cut embellishments designed for both scrapbook enthusiasts and paper artists alike. Christina hand paints each design collection on large canvasses, using a variety of mediums and techniques, incorporating unique textures in combination with very large hand-carved stamp designs to create a distinctive line of paper products. Her handpainted process yields the unique textures, layers and colour combinations of the paperWERX product line with no two paper designs ever duplicated.

The paperWERX line now includes 4 gorgeous paper collections that are based on specific color palettes and themes. The Collections are called Vintage Rustica, FRESH!, Big Kahuna and metropolitan. Each paper collection possesses a distinctive look and 'feel', with varied textures and colors, creating a cohesive, coordinated group of designs that can be used in scrapbook layouts, on cards, in altered books and more!

In addition to their beautiful papers, the paperWERX product range includes die cut tags, rub-on transfers based on Christina's handwriting (how cool is that?!), a coordinating fiber collection called fiberWERX and a cool new product called Image Transfer Material (used for LARGE scale image transfers and custom journal stickers).

How exciting is this? Christina recently announced an wonderful NEW addition to the Lazar StudioWERX Inc. line of products called Poppets™ by Claudine Hellmuth!

Since Claudine and Christina have been friends for years, when the idea of creating a product line from her Poppets™ illustrations came to her, she called on Christina to provide the manufacturing services she'd need to get her product into the marketplace. Thanks to Christina and Lazar StudioWERX Inc. you'll now be able to create artwork using Claudine's images, stamps and papers! The collection features Claudine Hellmuth's whimsical collages and illustrations and will inspire you to create fun, narrative scrapbook pages, delightful cards, charming altered art and more. Using Poppets™ will breathe new life into static scrapbook, card and altered book layouts. It is a truly unique and inventive collection designed to help you add life, personality and let's face it, a little more laughter, to your art.

With new products and product lines being added all the time, the tiny company that Lazar StudioWERX Inc started out as is growing steadily and is becoming a trendsetter in paper and paperarts design.
