Technique Junkies 5th Edition CD Reviewby Anita FaullScrapping Deck Crewmember Ah, techniques! I love techniques. It’s so fun to take a plain piece of cardstock and transform it into something that perfectly matches your photos. And, you can do it all with materials such as ink, stamps, sprays, and coloring tools. If you have step-by-step directions with a picture of each and every step, trying a new technique is a breeze. So, where do you go to find great techniques with pictorial directions? Check out the 5th Edition Technique Junkies CD. It is loaded with 85 techniques in .pdf format that you can view on your computer screen or easily print. Seventy-five of the techniques are from the last year of the Technique Junkies Newsletter and 10 are brand new bonus techniques. You can find a sample of the techniques at http://www.patstamps.com/. Notice that each technique has a number of beautiful sample projects to spark your creativity. The Technique Junkies Newsletter is published by Pat Huntoon. On her web site, she freely admits, “I am a junkie... a junkie for stamping and scrapbooking! How did this happen to me? I was THE "anti-craft"!!! I was a driven career-woman who never did anything crafty...then I had my kids and all that changed. I found that I wanted and needed a creative outlet...and I found scrapbooking. Not long after, I was introduced to stamping, and now I am enveloped in this long and beautiful love affair with these two wonderful crafts!” So what techniques will you find on the CD? I tried a few of them on my layouts this month. First and foremost, I used the Burnished Watercolors technique for this anniversary trip layout. I needed to capture the beauty of the flowers my husband gave me as well as the zaniness of his picture behind the backdrop, so a fun flower stamp was perfect. And, since I created the background and accents myself, I could use colors that perfectly matched the photos. ![]() ![]() Since we’re in England, where tea is a popular drink, I scrapbooked some photos of a Christmas tea party I attended a few years ago. To add glitz to my page, I used the Colorwash Smoosh Technique. The stamps from Paper Artsy suited the layout perfectly.
Finally, I was thrilled to find that the CD included a Faux Shaving Cream technique. Several chemists have told me that shaving cream is not scrapbook safe, but everything used in this technique is. How fun to create accents for my page without the worry of harming the photographs!
Not every technique on the CD is scrapbook safe, but many of them are. Those that aren’t archival are wonderful for cards and altered arts. For more information about the 5th Edition Technique Junkies CD, visit: http://www.patstamps.com/.
Sadly, this article is my last feature with the SSR eZine. I have embarked on a wonderful part-time job as a Kindermusik educator and need to make sure I also have plenty of time for my family. I plan to stay on the ship though. I’ll just be a reader rather than a crewmember. Thank you so much for voyaging with me. Keep stamping in those scrapbooks!
