Kokuyo Adhesives

Robin Willis - Altered Deck Crewmember

Happy New Year everyone!! I can’t believe it is already 2009!! It seems like we just celebrated it becoming 2008. I have noticed that time seems to fly by so much faster than it did when I was a child. I hope all of your holiday celebrations were wonderful and you all got to spend time with your families. That is what the season is all about.

This month, the crew had the opportunity to work with a wonderful adhesive from Kokuyo USA, Inc. You may notice that I have been using this adhesive almost exclusively for the past year or so. I have never liked tape runners. They always seem to gunk up and quit working about halfway through the tape. I hate throwing out half of the adhesive I have paid good money for. Because of this, I used to always use regular double stick tape and glue sticks. That was, of course, before I was introduced to the Tape N Roller Plus and the Dot N Roller tape runners! These do not quit working and they always apply the adhesive smoothly. I also love that they are refillable so I am not filling up the landfill with a bunch of tape dispensers

First, I will talk about the Tape N Roller Plus. It comes in permanent and repositionable. I have found that even the permanent variety is repositionable for a short time if you haven’t pressed it down hard to your surface. It is not a continuous strip of tape that needs to be cut. It is perforated in about 1/8” increments which allows it to be run around corners without getting wrinkled, and it cuts away from itself easily. There are no buttons or triggers. You just place the end on your cardstock, drag to start rolling the adhesive and then lift to stop. It works beautifully. I love the fact that you can roll it around corners and curves. The Tape N Roller comes preloaded with tape and then the refills are .39 inches wide by 33 feet long! It is extremely thin adhesive that adds no bulk to your work. It can be applied to the back of text weight paper without showing through. It is a strong bond adhesive. It has a heavy duty bond to keep all of your projects together forever.

The other type of adhesive runner we were able to work with was the Dot N Roller. It is a micro-dot dry adhesive that also comes in permanent and repositionable. This will also go around curves and corners easily. I love that I can use this on skinnier items and the dots are just applied to the areas it hits. If I get a stray dot of adhesive, I can easily rub it away with no residue left behind. It is as thin as the Tape N Roller. It will leave no sign on the thinnest of papers and will not cause wrinkling or buckling of your paper. This adhesive comes preloaded and the refills are 1/3” wide by 43 feet long. You can make many projects with either of these tape runners.

Both styles are acid free, so they are great for scrapbooking, card making or any type of paper crafts. They have caps that you flip back and secure under the unit while in use and then flip back up to cover your adhesive when not in use. This is especially wonderful to me. There are no caps to lose like other tape runners and I like to make sure that no lint gets on the adhesive. The refill cartridges are super easy to replace. You just basically drop them in. There is no drying time like you have with wet adhesives. There is no annoying peel off backing or mess with these tape runners.

I normally add any cons to my tools reviews, but I honestly haven’t found one yet. The size of the applicator is very nice for small or large hands, the amount of adhesive you get is generous and they always work smoothly. These are just all around excellent adhesive tools for any paper crafter’s supply. I hope that you give these a try in your own studio. I think you will be amazed at the ease of use and how well they work. Be sure to check out all of the articles this month to see how the crew used the Kokuyo adhesives. I want to extend a special thanks to Kokuyo USA, Inc. for sponsoring our crew this month!

Until Next Month,
Happy Stamping!
