Ramie Ahlstrom - Scrapping Deck Cruise DirectorAlthough I’ve been known to use way more cardstock than patterned paper in my scrapbooking, I’ve found that there are some fantastic patterned paper designs that fit my “simple, yet complex” way of scrapping. The Karen Foster Design paper line is a perfect match for my taste. Not too bright or bold, but not muted and plain either.
Karen Foster Design has recently released several new paper lines, as well as matching stickers and coordinating embellishments. They also still sell several of their older patterns, which are fantastic as well. Their paper is a medium weight paper that withstands being used as a background well, with no need for attaching cardstock to keep it flat. It is available in the two most common scrapbooking sizes, 8.5”x11” and true 12”x12”. The patterns are printed on one side of the paper, and are composed of very true colors. They also produce true 12”x12” patterned vellum.
Their stickers come in several sizes, and in clear or cardstock backgrounds. The clear background stickers are perfect for placing over a photo, patterned paper, a tag, or cardstock. Because of the clear background, these stickers don’t “stick” out! The cardstock weight stickers are thicker and easy to use because they don’t move when you pull them off their backing, like the lighter weight stickers can. The cardstock stickers have an almost real look to them. It’s hard to tell that they are stickers if you don’t look at them carefully. All of the stickers coordinate well with the various papers and vellums that Karen Foster Design makes.
Karen Foster Design also has a wide variety of embellishments available that match their paper lines perfectly. Buttons, tags, brads, die-cuts, metal toggles, and hinges are just a few of them. Idea books are also available, containing hundreds of layouts made using Karen Foster Design products. These are invaluable if you are looking for ideas for using these products! A complete list of available products can be found on their website Karen Foster DesignFor this article, I’ve had the opportunity to use several of the new patterned papers made by Karen Foster Design, as well as the clear background stickers and cardstock stickers. I believe that their papers are perfect for most projects; they are also very easy to use, and to coordinate with solid color cardstock and other materials (embellishments, stickers, etc.). The stickers I used were an absolute breeze to apply, and the cardstock weight stickers are perfect for using on a layout where a 3D effect is desired.
If you haven’t tried the Karen Foster Design products, give it a shot. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised, as I was. Their products are very easy and fun to use, and coordinate easily with anything you want to put with them!
