Yarn, String, Thread, Floss, Rope---It’s All FIBER to Me!Ramie Ahlstrom - Scrapping Deck Cruise DirectorBy whatever name you choose to call it, fibers are a fantastic addition to any scrapbook page, tag, embellishment or greeting card. They can be used in countless ways, and come in any variety of color, size or fuzziness you desire. Fibers are widely available in many departments of your favorite craft store. Yarns and threads used most often by knitters and crotcheters are a wonderful source for scrapbookers. Embroidery floss is also very useful in scrapbooking. Dental floss and flax have also made their way across the aisles, and are very popular. Rope, twine and cord from the hardware store come in handy for more masculine pages and cards. Fibers can also be found easily online. With an endless number of colors and textures available, adding the right fiber to your pages is as simple as adhering it. My favorite way to attach fibers to a layout is by taping the ends of the fiber to the back of my layout (or photo mat, embellishment, etc.).
![]() ![]() Other ways to attach fibers to your layouts include using double-sided tape, glue dots, tying it to a tag or other embellishment, or stringing it through eyelets. You can also “sew” your fibers onto the page, using a paper needle (or large sewing needle). ![]() ![]() Having recently moved overseas, I’m looking forward to celebrating our nations birthday this month. The military base we live on has a huge festival planned for July 4th, and I can’t wait to share the fireworks with my daughter. I’ve scrapped a page in advance, and added some sewn firework embellishments. I can’t wait to add some photos of her all decked out in red, white and blue! ![]() ![]()
Using fibers is one of my favorite ways to embellish a scrapbook page. I think fibers add that little something often missing in my “simple” pages. I hope you are inspired to add some fiber to your diet . . . oh, I mean layouts! If you’d like to have your work own fiberlicious creations published in SS Reflections, feel free to email your jpg images to editor@ssreflections.com for submission to the Reader’s Gallery. Be sure to include your name, and city and state or country! Happy Scrappin’, Ramie Ahlstrom ramieahlstrom@ssreflections.com Scrapping Deck Cruise Director S.S. Reflections, Inc. ![]() ![]()
