Happy New Year!

Hi, Everybody, a very Happy New Year to you all. Welcome to my first article of 2009. For this month, I decided to do my first sample using all fabric, so you'll see no card or paper in this project. I seem to have followed a trend here and kind of gone overboard on embellishments! Not long ago it was a case of “less is more,” but currently that seems to have swung over to “more is more” and there's no limit to what you can add to your cards and other projects. I think it's a lot of fun; you just have to make sure your stash is well stocked! I had some beautiful stamps from Kodomo Inc to play with this time; the one used here is called Floral Stamp (3933-098).
I made a little wall hanging to welcome in the New Year. I started out with white cotton fabric and, as usual, I coloured my base fabric with Twinkling H20s, this time in sepia brown tones. For the subsequent layers, I brayered Distress Inks onto the fabric. I had some kitchen towels underneath the cotton and made the happy discovery of the embossed pattern from that coming through onto the surface of the fabric. It was one of those nice moments of serendipity!
I thought I would try to paint the flower images with my Distress Inks. I have to be honest and say I didn't expect them to work very well on the fabric, so it was a pleasant surprise when they did! I coloured the lace trim with the Twinkling H20s, printed the words on cotton sheets for inkjet printers and distressed the edges with ink. All that remained was to add lots of bling in the form of flowers, charms, ribbon, glitter and decorative stitching! The size of this piece is just over 8 inches square.
Hope you may feel inspired to work with fabric, too, and I recommend the Kodomo stamps. They print beautifully each time, whether you use fabric or paper.
My second piece for this month is a more traditional New Year card. Hope you like it! I used stamps from Kodomo Clear Stamps set Snow Flake 1 (CS010).
