September 1, 2007 From the Helm - Welcome to SSR!Cap'n Dawn Heath,Publisher ![]() As we visit France this month we have been blessed to have our very own Ramie share a special visit she had to Paris. She is even sharing some of her very first layouts with you! So without further adieu I'll let Ramie share her personal journey to Paris... Cap'n Dawn France...Paris, France... A place I’d always dreamed about going...and finally got to. Now, it’s been almost a decade since I was there, but my memories are vivid, as if I’d been there yesterday! I was living in Spain, courtesy of the US Navy, and was a volunteer with the base’s high school band. They had been asked to participate in a contest at Disneyland Paris, and the director asked if I’d like to be a chaperone. Having never been to Paris, I thought it was a perfect opportunity, and the costs were less than what I’d pay as an “average tourist”, so I hopped on board...literally! After an 18 hour bus ride, with 60+ high school kids and a few other chaperones, we arrived at Disneyland Paris. We bunked in cabins, camp style. We spent 5 days seeing the sights, and watching the band compete and perform (and they did that well!). While I don’t recall what we did when, I know we spent one foggy damp morning at the Eiffel Tower, and an afternoon touring part of the Louvre. Then we spent one day walking the town, seeing the Arc De Triumphe, the Joan of Arc and many other famous sites, and ended our day at Notre Dame. We hit the Hard Rock Café for t-shirts and dinner, and hit lots of wonderful little café’s for pastries...for breakfast, lunch & dessert! We also spent one day, Thanksgiving Day, at Disneyland Paris. I had never been to a Disney park before (and that’s the only one I’ve been to still), and it was amazing. It was cold, damp and foggy, but we had a wonderful time. I was in awe the whole time. Here’s a few layouts I did, way back in 2000, from my days in Paris! ![]()
![]() Paris was the only place I spent any time while I was in France, so I can’t say much about the rest of France, but I loved my time in Paris, and am so glad I went...even after paying to use the restrooms, and waiting in line to see the Mona Lisa...which was a major disappointment for me...it’s an amazing piece of art, but it’s SOOO much smaller than it always appears in pictures!! I hope you all have a wonderful “visit” in France, and that you’ll share your French inspired art with us! Ramie The latest news from Snow regarding Maddie is just too awesome to not share RIGHT NOW!! THE DOCTOR FEELS MADDIE IS CANCER FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Her lymph nodes are enlarge but he feels it could be because of all the things she has gone through but it is something they will follow because of her history!! It is Maddie choice if she wants her port removed but the doctor feels it will be much easier on her when they have to do the cat scan and blood tests. So for now it will be left in. We feel so much better but the next 3 months it will always be in our mind till another cat scan is done. Our family and friends have decided to keep our cancer bracklets on till after that scan. THANK EACH OF YOU FOR ALWAYS BEING THERE FOR US!! I KNOW GOD HAS HEARD ALL OUR PRAYERS. Snow Davidson Snow's granddaughter Maddie was diagnosed with a very fast growing cancerous tumor in her abdomen. Maddie is 7 years old and the SSR Ezine community has rallied to send Maddie and her family cards of encouragement. We have created this very special gallery to showcase as many of the cards as we are sent scans of so that wherever Maddie is, she can see the cards and all the heartfelt prayers we are sending her way. ![]() If you would like to participate in Maddie's page please send me a scan of your card to Maddie and her family to editor@ssreflections.com. Please size the scan to 475 pixels before you email it to me and include your first and last name. I will update this page as often as possible with news from the family on Maddie with what they are comfortable sharing with us. This is all to encourage Maddie and her family and we will respect their privacy at all times. No information will be shared on this page without the full consent of the family. ![]()
